Frequently Asked Questions

How does SOURCE approach business from within The Princeton Soccer Association?

The focus of SOURCE and its team is to provide the highest level of physical preparation and personal development coaching to anyone and everyone interested at PSA.  Years of experience have made it very clear that a particular number of individuals will be interested in a more focused level of service.  As these individuals pursue such service, SOURCE will professionally provide the education, motivation, and continued guidance necessary.  SOURCE does not solicit private training and only invites those interested to learn from us.  SOURCE operates on an information sharing paradigm and will follow the lead of PSA and its board and coaches as requested.

What can my child expect to gain from working with SOURCE?

The SOURCE experience is primarily one of personal growth.  You can expect your child to become more flexible, to improve posture, and become stronger and faster, all resulting in better protection from injury and enhanced sports performance.  You can also expect your child to benefit emotionally, experiencing improved self esteem, confidence, motivation and discipline.

What is your training method?

The SOURCE training methodology is based on continual assessment along with the five physical qualities of flexibility, stability, strength, power, and speed.   Our training model begins with the Foundation Phase.   In this cycle of training, emphasis is placed on creating structural integrity by working on the flexibility (range of motion) and stability of the joints.  We then move on to the Development Phase where full body strength is acquired using multiple joint movements.  Finally, in the Transfer Phase, the strength that has been developed is transferred into sports specific power and speed.

What are the purposes of the consultation and assessments?

The consultation and assessments allow the Performance Coach to establish your child’s needs in order to design the appropriate program.   The consultation is an interview during which we discuss the client’s goals, medical and injury history, training experience, and lifestyle habits.   There are three types of assessments currently implemented by Performance Coaches.  New clients will begin with a Structural Assessment, during which we examine the structural alignment, range of motion, stability of the joints, and functional movement.  Later in the training program, Performance Assessments designed to monitor the physical qualities of strength, power, and speed will be conducted.  Also available is the SOURCE Assessment, which involves a thorough examination of the client’s motivation, mind set, and beliefs.

What is the difference between a Trainer and a Performance Coach?

The SOURCE Trainers are competent to implement the strength and conditioning programs in all phases of our training model.   The SOURCE Performance Coaches are the master trainers who conduct the consultations and assessments, establish appropriate goals, design the programs, and conduct performance testing.   Performance Coaches also provide nutritional consulting and lifestyle management, soft tissue work, and motivational enhancement.   August Leming, Ph.D., C.S.C.S. and David Nogaki, C.S.C.S. currently lead the SOURCE Performance Coaches.

My child has a learning disability.  Will he/she be given special attention?

Yes.  SOURCE Trainers and Performance Coaches attend continuing education modules prepared by Dr. Leming which inform staff members of the possible implications of prevalent adolescent diagnoses including: ADHD, ADD, eating disorders, body image disorders, mood disorders, OCD, Asperger’s Syndrome, alcohol and drug use disorders, and various learning disabilities.  These modules allow SOURCE Trainers and Performance Coaches to design programs for and train your child with a sensitivity to possible psychological, neurological, and medicinal implications.  SOURCE works with your child, taking into account real life stressors that can have a dramatic impact on their health, performance, and safety.

How much individual attention does my child receive during the session?

The answer to this question depends on both your preferences and your child’s needs.  Individual sessions are excellent for addressing unique structural issues, especially during the Foundation Phase. However, small group training has several benefits including, social reinforcement, improved exercise adherence, and a reduction in per-session cost.

Where does the training take place?

Training takes place at the PSA field(s) when possible and can be scheduled at any time that PSA has the field.  Training can also take place at SOURCE’s state-of-the-art facility located in the heart of Princeton .

How much experience do you have in this field?

Dr. Leming and Mr. Nogaki have over 40,000 hours of training and coaching experience as Performance Coaches.  Both have worked with clients of all ages.  In addition to the individual expertise our trainers bring to SOURCE, they all receive further training by Dr. Leming and Mr. Nogaki until they become proficient in the SOURCE Model.
