Princeton Union History
Background

WHY PRINCETON UNION?

Union teams have a great deal of history over the last decade.

The name comes from current US Men’s National Team head coach Bob Bradley’s involvement in PSA when he was the head coach at Princeton University.  Bob had worked with a club team in Union, NJ, called the Lancers, that won consecutive U17 National Championships in the late 1980’s (current Princeton U. coach Jim Barlow was a member of one of these teams).  When Bob began working with a competitive team in PSA, he chose the name Union to both pay homage to his experience with the Lancers, and to note that the team had players coming together not just from Princeton, but from other towns as well.

In 1999 this original Princeton Union team completed their youth soccer careers by winning the U19 New Jersey State Cup and the Region 1 tournament that year.

Current Union teams display the highest level of committment, motivation, and ability. These teams represent PSA at the highest levels of youth soccer.
